Drip edge is a thin piece of metal flashing installed at the edges of a roof. It helps finish and protect the roof edge while bridging the transition from the roof deck to the fascia.

Why It Matters

Roof edges are exposed to a lot of water movement and are one of the places where several materials meet. Without a proper drip edge, water can curl back underneath the shingles or reach vulnerable edge materials instead of leaving the roof edge cleanly.

Common Problems

Common issues include missing drip edge, pieces installed too tightly against the fascia, bent metal, gaps at corners, and drip edge that is not integrated correctly with underlayment or starter shingles.

Exterior Echelon Notes

Exterior Echelon checks drip edge as part of the full roof-edge system. The detail is small, but it can affect fascia protection, gutter integration, and long-term roof durability.
